I was commissioned by the University of Gloucestershire to develop a large-scale artwork for the new City Campus stairwell, transforming five walls of an everyday circulation space into an engaging alumni gallery. The brief centred around the idea of “This is Connecting” - celebrating the relationships between the university, its alumni and the wider creative community, while creating something that would feel integral to the architecture rather than simply applied to it.
The central concept became a continuous vinyl line that travels physically through the space, moving from the entrance and up the staircase before arriving at the top landing. Along its journey, the line connects a series of framed portraits and stories of University of Gloucestershire alumni. I wanted the line to act as both a strong graphic device and a metaphor for connection: linking people, places, experiences and different stages of a journey. Its movement across multiple walls also encourages visitors to follow the artwork as they move up the staircase.
Along the graphics there were blank picture frames with “This Is Your Place” placed above it so current students can look at them and see themselves and their journey within the University.
The project had a tight deadline and was produced for the opening of the City Campus by the Princess Royal in January 2026.
